The number one factor that influences our ability to achieve our goals is having a strong desire to do so. Some call this main ingredient that all high achievers possess, Achievement Drive. Achievement Drive is the multiplier of all of your other skills and abilities.
Achievement drive isn't released within us until we believe that; 1) a goal is within our own possibilities to achieve it and 2) we feel worthy to achieve it. It is important to remember that achievement drive isn't some external force that is poured in us from the outside; rather it is released from within us. Everyone has the potential for high achievement drive, but many people never learn how to access it or release it. If your goals are clear and your purpose is right and you have the determination to see it through, despite whatever obstacles you face, you'll almost always find a way to achieve what you desire. When you are passionate about your goal(s) and have a positive spirit, you will most definitely stand at the top of the highest peaks of achievement.
Here are the essential ingredients for high achievement drive;
Achievement drive is released when you:
Get excited about the possibility of enjoying greater achievement
Have written out very clear and specific goals
Set goals just beyond your current level of achievement
Reward yourself frequently as you make progress towards your goal(s)
Internally believe that these goals are within your possibilities of reaching them and that you are worthy of enjoying them
Have strong values that are consistent with your goals and cause you, once you make a commitment, to diligently do whatever is necessary to achieve them;
Have consciously structured a success environment around yourself so as to support and encourage you.
Take advantage of self development opportunities, books, audio programs, seminars, etc.
Associate with like minded, positive, high achievers
Another way to ensure that you have an ample supply of Achievement Drive is to embrace the concept of lifelong learning. I was recently reminded of a tried and true axiom. It states that "Five years from today, you will be the same person as you are today, except for the books you read, the people you surround yourself with, and the CD's you listen to." Where do you get your inspiration and new ideas from? How open are you to trying out new methods, ideas, and concepts.
The final point I'd like to make about Achievement Drive and Success comes from a quote from Henry Ford. He wrote about the power of enthusiasm many years ago. He said, "You can do anything if you have enthusiasm. Enthusiasm…makes your hopes rise to the stars. Enthusiasm is the spark in your eye, the swing in your gait, the grip of your hand, the irresistible surge of your will and your energy to execute your ideas. Enthusiasts are fighters, they have fortitude, and they have staying qualities. Enthusiasm is at the bottom of all progress! With it, there is accomplishment. Without it, there are only alibis."
Good luck to you on your journey to success.
